Elite Athlete Rehabilitation Services

Based in Aspetar, Doha, Enda is Head of Elite Performance and Development which incoporates supporting elite athletes and their medical teams with recurrent or longstanding injuries, structuring rehabilitation programmes or optimising athletic development. Athletes come for periods from 2 weeks to several months for intensive analysis and rehabilitation to optimise recovery and return to performance. The core services provided are:

ACL Rehabilitation

Through his PhD and with the highly experienced ACL team at Aspetar, Enda has been involved in the assessment and rehabilitation of 1000s of athletes after ACL reconstruction. 3D biomechanical analysis allows for accurate measurement of athlete progress at every step of the rehabilitation process facilitating more targeted rehabilitation strategies. In addition the largest database of athletes coupled with 15 years of rehabilitation experience with ACL athletes positions Enda to successfully steer athletes across a variety of sports through pain free RTP and back to optimal athletic performance.

Athletic Groin Pain

Enda has published extensively in the area of athletic groin pain with numerous publications in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. The focus is on the biomechanical deficits that have led to the athletes symptoms as opposed to an anatomy based approach. Using the 3D biomechanics laboratory to identify biomechanical and intersegmental control deficits specific to each athlete during jumping, running and change of direction allows for bespoke rehabilitation programmes to be developed and coached. This approach has led to the fastest recovery times published in the literature in this challenging cohort of athletes.

Recurrent Muscle Injury /

Lower Limb Tendinopathy

While much of the focus in recurrent muscle injuries and chronic tendon problems focuses on the injured tissue this misses the opportunity to identify strength, power and co-ordination deficits away from the injury site which can drive the recurrent problems. Enda’s approach of generating a comprehensive profile of each individual athletes through strength and power profiling, linear running analysis and 3D biomechanical analysis allows a thorough overview of all the contributing factors and facilitates the most effective and efficient rehabilitation strategies.

Prevention

While the majority of athletes look for assistance when injured, there is increasing awareness of the huge overlap between athletic performance and injury preventions. Before the start of pre-season or during breaks in the season is a great opportunity to carry out a comprehensive overview of how the athlete is moving, what their strength and deficits are that may contribute to injury risk and where the barriers to improved athletic performance lie. These windows offer a fantastic opportunity to chart progress and undergo an intensive block of rehabilitation prior to returning to full training at their club or franchise.
